Economic Justice Campaigning

World trade rules are hurting the poor.

Despite the enormous wealth of the global economy, more than half the worldīs people still live on less than two dollars a day. International trade should be helping — but it isnīt. Instead unjust trade rules are keeping the poor locked in poverty.

Redress Fashion

Redress Fashion

The Redress Fashion campaign focuses on what we can do as students to support the struggles of garment workers worldwide.

Following on from actions against Primark last year, we’ll be targeting Topshop on the high street, demanding that it takes the basic step of joining the Ethical Trading Initiative.

On our campuses, we will be campaigning to ensure that our university and college merchandise is sweatshop-free.

New Corporate Power Campaign

Take back control with People & Planet’s new campaign to challenge corporate power, to be launched in September 2009.

Corporate Fat Cat

Stop big business fat cats profiting at the expense of people and the environment.

The size and influence of some corporations dwarfs that of many countries. Their power shapes all our lives - as workers, consumers or citizens.

Yet corporations are driven by profit - not social needs or environmental sustainability. Their unaccountable power is driving policies that keep the poor poor, degrade our environment, abuse human rights and undermine democracy. It’s time to put people and planet before profit.

For detailed background information about some of the key issues and to find out how to get involved in shaping this new campaign, see the Corporate Power pages.

Climate Change Campaigning

Climate change is happening now, and its effects will be felt by all of us.

Wealthy nations like Britain are responsible for producing 80% of the greenhouse gases which drive climate change. The ever increasing impacts are global, threatening the lives and livelihoods of millions. Most at risk will be many of the world’s most vulnerable people in developing countries.

For detailed background information about the key issues, see our about climate change pages.
