Iran: Time to Talk
Crisis Action’s latest publication is “Time To Talk: The Case for Diplomatic Solutions on Iran”. It warns that a military attack on Iran would have “disastrous consequences”.
Crisis Action is an independent, non-profit organisation which works to help avert conflicts, to prevent human rights abuses and to ensure that governments fulfil their obligations to protect civilians.
People & Planet helped set up Crisis Action after civil society’s failure to stop the war in Iraq in 2003.
Crisis Action works closely with a diverse range of partners, all of whom are concerned with tackling the immediate effects or long-term consequences of conflict. Together, they aim to increase the impact of civil society’s responses to current and emerging conflict-related crises.
Crisis Action operates flexibly by engaging in temporary ‘opt-in’ alliances formed in response to specific crises.
The support that Crisis Action provides is determined by the circumstances of each crisis. It can include:
- Warning of emerging crises and prompting early responses
- Sharing information and analysis with partners
- Research and analysis of government policy
- Facilitating dialogue between partners
- Negotiating joint policy platforms
- Coordination of agreed partner action plans
- Planning and executing joint campaigns
- Evaluation of the effectiveness of joint responses to crises

Crisis Action was foundeded in 2004 by its first director, Guy Hughes — a visionary campaigner for peace and social justice. Guy was Head of Campaigns at People & Planet when he developed the idea for Crisis Action in response to civil society’s failure to stop the war in Iraq. Guy tragically died in a climbing accident in January 2006.
