Schools, colleges and universities must clean up their act
Britain’s universities, colleges and schools have a huge environmental impact - one that could and should be massively reduced. The UK Higher Education (HE) sector emits 3 million tonnes of CO₂ into the atmosphere every year, and is responsible for over 1 million journeys daily. Schools emit 9.3 million tonnes of CO₂ per year, and that’s not counting the 1.2 million tonnes of CO₂ emitted by people travelling to school by car. That’s why People & Planet groups at schools, colleges and universities around the country are part of the Go Green campaign to get their institutions to take climate change seriously and systematically improve their environmental performance.
