How we work with Sixth Forms
- Help students set up groups to campaign in their schools or colleges on global issues.
- A package of workshops for schools, designed to introduce students to global issues such as climate change, AIDS and Fairtrade and to help them set up groups.
- Ongoing support to these groups, consisting of: a designated staff member who keeps in contact with the group, a range of capacity building workshops to build the group’s skills, and campaign materials.
- Monthly and weekly news bulletins and exciting national events
- We implement and regularly review our Child Protection Policy. The Child Protection coordinator is Jamie
Our programme has two aims
- To empower young people
- To have an impact on issues of social justice and the environment
Campaigns
Check out the campaigns pages to see what issues sixth form groups campaign on.
What does a P&P group do?
All sorts of things! Most groups meet regularly during term time to discuss and plan campaigns at their school. Activities can include: holding Fairtrade tasting stalls, lobbying school decision makers to make schools and colleges greener, collecting petitions to present to the Government, and running events such as debates and parties which highlight the issues we campaign on.
Groups also take part in national events such as a mass lobby of Parliament or demonstrations and run some or all of P&P’s national campaigns. They also attend national P&P events.
To find out more about P&P groups, please browse the latest news or visit the students or teachers pages of our website.
What´s so special about the People & Planet Network?
- People & Planet creates impact because our campaigns really work, from changing the law on arms exports to introducing Fairtrade into school canteens. We have converted 65 colleges to using green electricity and helped many schools gain Fairtrade status.
- We empower by giving people the skills and the confidence to change the world around them on their own terms.
- We´re student-led because the students choose what we campaign on, so that we´re always relevant to young people.
Why is the P&P Network so effective?
- Because campaigning as part of a network allows us to support one another and achieve far more than we could as individuals.
- Because we campaign strategically on a broad range of issues, which allows us to see how they are all inter-connected.
- Because we invest in training our campaigners and developing our groups, which enables them to be more effective in achieving change.
- Because every person and every group is important to People & Planet - nobody is just a cog in the wheel.
- Because we can draw on the skills, ideas and commitment of thousands of student campaigners across the UK.
