Stop Climate Chaos Coalition

What is Stop Climate Chaos?

Without urgent action, climate change will devastate life on earth. Hundreds of millions of people, particularly the world’s poorest and most vulnerable will be put at severe risk of drought, floods, starvation, and disease. Up to one third of land-based species could face extinction by the middle of the century.

People & Planet is part of Stop Climate Chaos, the UK’s largest group of people dedicated to action on climate change and limiting its impact on the world’s poorest communities. Our combined supporter base of more than 4 million people spans over 70 organisations, from environment and development charities to unions, faith, community and women’s groups.

Together we demand political action in the UK to prevent global warming rising beyond the 2°C danger threshold.

We want the UK Government to:

  1. Show leadership to help create a fair international deal by 2010 to keep global warming below the 2°C danger threshold to protect people and the planet.
  2. Create an ambitious UK ‘carbon budget’ to deliver substantial, sustained annual emissions reductions ensuring that the UK meets its fair share of the international effort to keep global warming below 2°C.
  3. Provide poor countries with the resources they need to help them adapt to climate change and follow a low carbon development path.

Right now the UK can achieve the most significant impact by tackling its electricity sector - the single biggest source of the UK’s CO₂ emissions. So top of our agenda is to campaign for clean, green energy to be the UK’s number 1 energy choice, and to massively scale up energy efficiency. Only the Government can make this happen.
